I was born in the 90’s, so it’s safe to say that I am a 90’s kid. I remember that back then Carman was all the rage. I used to annoy my parents by constantly singing a lot of his songs. I was only a few years old, so most of the words that came out of my mouth were gibberish. From the songs that I used to sing, there was one that I loved the most, and even now, 20 years later, I still remember the chorus.

“On Friday night, they crucified Christ on that tree,

But he said, “Don’t worry, three days’ later

I’ll live again, you’ll see!”

When problems try to bury you, make it hard to pray,

It may seem like Friday night, but Sunday’s on the way!”

(Honestly, I get chills even writing it down)

In a couple of days, we will be celebrating Easter. Friday is known as Good Friday and Sunday is Resurrection Sunday. We commemorate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was beaten and killed on Friday night, but on Sunday morning… 3 days later…

What I like the most about the song is the last phrase:  “It may seem like Friday night, but Sunday’s on the way!” For Jesus, Friday night was a night that signaled the culmination of his torture, ending with extreme suffering and pain. Sunday- well that was a totally different day. Sunday was the day of resurrection and life!

Many of us may feel like it’s Friday night. We may be facing constant pain and deception. Maybe some feel as if their marriage is dead, their relationships are dead, their career is dead, or their ministry is dead. Is that you? Do you feel that way? Do you feel like everything in your life is dead? Do you feel as if you are currently in a dark and cold tomb? In the words of Carman: it’s Friday…but Sunday is on its way!

I am reminded of 1 Corinthians 15:55 that states, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” That’s right. Death is no longer victorious over us and it has lost its sting! If this blog is talking to you, I want you to know that it may be Friday in your life, but Sunday is right around the corner! Jesus resurrected from the dead and He is about to bring life to everything that has died in your life.  This Easter, celebrate that Jesus overcame, therefore, you will too! Sunday is on its way..
